The Safe/Sea Point Judith was built for Safe/Sea over the winter of 2000-2001 by Almar Boats of Tacoma, Washington. She entered service as our primary offshore responder in the summer of 2001, based out of Block Island's New Harbor. Her hull is welded aluminum, with a 26" diameter inflation collar. The M/V Point Judith is now the primary responder for Pt. Judith.
The Safe/Sea Point Judith is powered by twin Yanmar 6LY series turbodiesels that produce 315 horsepower each. Each engine is coupled to a Hamilton 274 waterjet through Borg-Warner 1:1 marine transmissions.
In the hands of an experienced operator, her waterjet propulsion system gives the Safe/Sea Point Judith amazing manueverability. She can spin 360 degrees without moving forward or astern and can even move directly sideways or diagonally while maintaining her heading.
