December Roars Into R.I.04-Dec-2009Though most local boaters are disappointed that the 2009 boating season has passed, they were equally happy to know that their boats were not in the water as a storm battered the Rhode Island coast in the early morning hours of December 2nd. Occurring during an astronomical high tide, heavy rains and southwest winds in excess of 50 knots flooded local roadways, forced the closure of the Providence hurricane barrier, and left many residents without power. Luckily, with few boats left in the water, Safe/Sea received no calls for assistance. However, Capt. Phil LeBlanc ventured out at daybreak to assess the storm's damage and came back with a number of pictures from the exposed southern coast of Jamestown. Click the photos to view full size.
