Jay Burns, Manager of Brewer Yacht Yard Portsmouth Passes Away

The entire Safe/Sea organization is saddened by the loss of one of our longtime friends and partners. Jay Burns, General Manager of Brewer Yacht Yard in Portsmouth, passed away yesterday.

Jay began working for the Brewer Organization at the age of 13 and spent over thirty years with them. Beginning his career at New York's Post Road Boatyard, Jay worked summers throughout his high school and college years. In 1982, after earning degrees in political science and economics, Jay was asked to manage Brewer's Sakonnet River location in Rhode Island. At only 22, Jay was one of the youngest individuals to ever take the General Manager position for Brewer Yacht Yards.

Over the years, we at Safe/Sea have called on Jay to assist us on innumerable occasions. Whether it was an emergency haul-out for a sinking customer, or a desperate need for fuel after the marina had closed for the night, Jay was always there when we needed him most. He will be greatly missed.
