Herreshoff Marine Museum Announces Upcoming Events

The Herreshoff Marine Museum has announced a schedule of upcoming events aimed to educate and entertain local boaters. Throughout the Winter and Spring, Herreshoff will offer different courses to teach skills such as chart reading and plotting, as well as book signings, and lectures.

The first of the classes is being held from late October to mid November and is available to the public. Any boater that has ever been stuck in the fog with a malfunctioning GPS knows that the mastery of these skills can mean the difference between getting home and getting into more danger.

The Musum is also sponsering a book signing on December 9, that will feature such prominent figures as boat designer Olin Stephens, America’s Cup syndicate manager Ed DeMoulin, America’s Cup navigator Hallsey Herreshoff, and local cartoonist Don Bousquet. Each of these men have contributed to The America’s Cup and Rhode Island culture. Safe/Sea will also be in attendance as this is a great opportunity to meet local boaters.

On Saturday November 9 at 2pm, the Carlton J. Pinheiro Lecture Series will continue with “The Herreschoff Navy Torpedo Boats And The Fleet That Followed”. This lecture will be presented by Vice Admiral Thomas R. Weschler, U.S. Navy, Retired. Cost is $10 per person at the door and includes a wine & cheese reception.

The Herreshoff Marine Museum is located at One Burnside St in Bristol, RI, and can be reached at 401-253-5000 or www.hereshoff.org for more details.
