New Rescue Boat Construction Progressing Rapidly

New Boat to be Nearly Complete Before New Year

by Captain Pete Andrews
Safe/Sea Senior Staff Captain

Having just returned from the Almar production facility in Tacoma, WA on November 19, I’m happy to be able to report that the construction of the newest Safe/Sea vessel is progressing rapidly.

The hull of the new boat is virtually complete, with fabrication of the inflation tube attachment points ongoing during my two day visit. Rob Rotermund, Almar’s Welding Team Leader for this boat, and his crew are doing a fantastic job making sure this vessel will be delivered on time.

During my two day visit to Almar, I worked closely with both Rob and Roger Santos, Almar’s electronics guru, laying out the pilothouse and deck hardware of the new boat. Both Rob and Roger are great people to work with and have an uncanny knack for translating the features I want built into the boat become a reality.

By the time this article reaches our members, the new Safe/Sea vessel should be out of the welding shop and ready to enter the paint shop, where it will take about two weeks to apply her trademark bright red paint and white pilothouse stripe.

Once painting is complete, she will receive her mechanical systems, electronics and electrical system, and final finishing touches. Look for more updates on the boat’s progress in the April Safe/Sea Helpline and on the Safe/Sea website after the holidays!
