Fall Storm Hits Southern New England and R.I. Coast

As many of you know, an early fall storm brought heavy winds and rain to the Southern New England area.  In addition to the normal power-outages and other similar inconveniences, the storm wreaked havoc with local roads, causing flooding and closures all over the state. It was very much the same story on the water, and the Safe/Sea Emergency Response Center received many reports of boats sinking and capsizing in local marinas and mooring fields.  Safe/Sea was involved in four salvages linked to the storm. M/V Skyz The Limit Salvage & Arbitration

Safe/Sea Marine Rescue recently received an arbitration decision from a panel of arbitrators from the BoatU.S. arbitration program. This vessel, a 2003 32-foot Sea Ray was disabled on a rocky shore in New Harbor Block Island.Please click below for the full story and the full texts of the resulting district court case and arbitration.


Rhode Island's "No-Discharge" Compliance Program

2006 Free Action Boat Photo Dates Announced

The dates for the 2006 Free Action Boat Photo Program have been set. For a change this year, there will be one photo shoot in the Bay and one out of the Bay.

United States Coast Guard Warns of Fish Trap Dangers

Recently, the United States Coast Guard released a press release regarding the fish traps just south of Newport, RI. In their press release, the Coast Guard mentions not only the dangers of getting entangled in a trap, but also outlines how tough it may be to free a vessel from these traps. Corrosion Can be a Major Problem for Boaters.

Corrosion can be a big problem for boaters, especially at the beginning of the season. This article by Safe/Sea Captain and Fleet Maintenance supervisor Andy Casey gives some tips on how to avoid corrosion headaches.


"Old" Jamestown Bridge is Demolished.

On April 18th, as promised, the Old Jamestown Bridge's center span was reduced to a pile of rubbel on the ocean floor. Safe/Sea was lucky enough to have two boats on-site for the bridge demolition and was able to capture both a video of the blast and still photos of the aftermath. Please click below for both.


New Build Photos Available for new Safe/Sea Salvor.

The new Safe/Sea Salvor has been completed. The new Salvor is a 35 foot rigid-hull aluminum boat and will be put into service in the spring of 2006.

Safe/Sea Gearing up for 2006 Boat Show
