M/V Safe/Sea Rescue

Background

The Safe/Sea Rescue was custom built in 2019 by North River Boats, previously Almar, of Rosenberg, Oregon for the specific purpose of providing immediate response towing and salvage services in Narragansett Bay and near-coastal waters. She is 31 feet in length with a 12 foot beam for stability. Like all of the Safe/Sea salvage & towing vessels, she’s a rigid hull inflatable; her deep-v hull is welded aluminum with a bolt-on inflatable collar.

Powertrain

The Safe/Sea Rescue is built to provide exceptional performance and efficiency. The powertrain on board is centered around her twin 225 HP Yanmar 4LV-III series Turbocharged and after cooled Diesel engines. These engines provide exceptional efficiency without compromising the exceptional performance. Each engine is coupled to a Borg-Warner gear and a Hamilton 241 Jet Drive. The Safe/Sea Rescue has a Top Speed of 35 Knots cruising at 30 knots. Like the rest of our fleet she has precision maneuverability and can be spun in her own length, move sideways, and diagonally while holding a heading.

Hull

The Safe/Sea Rescue’s inflatable collar serves two purposes. First, it forms an extremely effective fendering system, as there’s no way to compress the collar enough to collide with the aluminum hull. Second, the collar gives the Rescue exceptional stability, especially in steep breaking seas or surf. In fact, the collar carries so much positive floatation that it’s virtually impossible to get a gunwale to “dig-into” a wave enough to cause a capsize.

Electronics

The Safe/Sea Rescue carries a full suite of state of the art Raymarine electronic navigational and communications equipment including Doppler Radar, Down and Side Scan Sonar, VHF, Axiom GPS, and an augmented reality camera system including a 360 degree Gimbal Stabilized FLIR Camera.
